In 2010, by Presidential proclamation, each January has been designated as National Slavery and Trafficking Prevention month. This was not long after I found myself deeply involved in this issue. For more than 10 years, I have sought to advocate and identify resources, partnerships, opportunities, and safe haven for hundreds of young women fighting for their right to live positive and meaningful lives.
When we wear our favorite blue shirt or dress on January 11th, together, in recognition of National Human Trafficking Awareness Day, and we consider the impact of slavery and trafficking on our community and our culture, I urge you to take action and help bring hope to the young women who are victims of sexual exploitation.
CeCe’s Hope Center is about the opportunities and second chances that are available to each young women when she is ready to take control of her life. We have been providing one-on-one support for one year and in 2020 we will take the next, critical step for the young women we serve. We plan to open a short-term housing, giving the women who most desperately need a clean, safe place to lay their head and prepare for their journey. We need you to take this step with us!
Please continue to support and follow our journey. I am very excited for this coming year and impact that, together, we will make on our community!
Happy New Year,

Paying it Forward
We had a wonderful experience this month that illustrates both the power of our work and the on-going need for our services. Monica, our Case Manager was contacted by one of our program participants who is taking each day, one step at a time while trying to build a future for herself.
“Jamie” called Monica and let her know that she had given a CeCe’s Hope Center quillow to a young woman that she had seen a few times out front of her work as she was leaving. She decided to approach this young woman, offered the Quillow, and told her that she could call the number on the card, talk to Monica and receive the support and resources she needed.
When Monica’s phone rang it was 11:30 pm. It was this young woman, holding a CeCe’s Hope Center Quillow and asking for help. She had been on the streets for nearly a year. She has suffered tragedy and abuse in her young life. She has aged out of the foster care system, graduated high school and began working, but got lost in the shuffle when her case manager abruptly left her position and didn’t follow up with her clients. She was hurt, cold, hungry, and didn’t know who to call or what to do.
Within three hours, Monica had secured a bed for her at a shelter and by 7 am was making arrangements for her to have medical treatment for her broken ankle and a temporary place to stay. We are hopeful that she will trust Monica along the process and work towards being healthy enough to seek employment and continue to take positive steps forward. A timely and caring support response possibly saved her from continued abuse and danger.
What is especially powerful about this late-night “rescue” is that it was facilitated by one of our clients who has experienced the benefit of having professionals at her side who support, encourage and hold her accountable. She paid this forward that night….helping another build her bridge to brightness.
